I had a chance to see Wedding Crashers recently. It was a funny movie featuring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson that somehow turned into a romantic comedy. The whole premise behind the movie is that there are these two guys that figure out how to crash weddings and pick up girls. It's an interesting premise which makes for alot of funny situations. Towards the end there was a really cool and unexpected cameo with one of my favorite actors, so that was a fun bonus. I would totally recommend going to see it...now.+ 1 - 2 | § ¶Sometimes life decides to punch you in the face.
too hard on the breaks againwhat if these breaks just give in?
what if they don't get out of the way?
what if there's someone overtaking?
i'm going out for a little drive
it could be the last time you see me alive
there could be an idiot on the road
the only kick in life is pumping his steel
they wrap me up in the back of the trunk
packed with foam and blind drunk
they won't ever take me alive
cause they all drive killer cars
don't die on the motorway
the moon would freeze
the plants would die
i couldn't cope if you crashed today
all the things i forgot to say
i'm going out for a little drive
could be the last time you see me alive
what if the car loses control
what if there's someone overtaking?
These are the lyrics from a song named Killer Cars by Radiohead. Get better soon buddy, you will be in my thoughts and prayers...

Taken from a newsgroup post about the NeXT computer...- ...I saw a similar demo of NeXT from (Steve) Jobs in the early 1990s in the cafeteria of ESL in Sunnyvale, California. According to a colleague at the time, Dean, he was working in a lab close to the cafeteria entrance. Before the demo, Jobs walked in to kill some time. Dean didn't recognize him but they started talking.
Jobs: "What are you working on?"
Dean: "We call this ViewPoint. It's a high-speed data acquisition and playback system based on a Macintosh computer. Do you know anything about the Macintosh?"
Jobs: "Yeah, a little."

First of all, I'm sure all of you have noticed the new logo and background (if not, refresh!) Other then that, I posted up an article about my experiences with the two main Linux PVR (think Tivo) programs, MythTV and Freevo. I'm still working on getting my PVR up and running, so this article is probably going to be updated as I go along. For now, its up to help out people with the same questions that I had. You can check it out by clicking this link.I also updated my pictures page to include more shots. I had to hack flickr's html code a bit to make it work, but I think it looks pretty sweet!
Finally, check this out for an example of recursive logic in Windows.

Stewie said this to his babysitter's boyfriend, who was preventing him (stewie) from hitting on her (the babysitter):- Ha! I got your hat! Take that, hatless! Now go back to the quad and resume your hackey sac tourney! I'm not gonna lay down for some frat boy bastard with his damn teether sandals and his Skoal Bandits and his Abercrombie and Fitch long sleeved, open stitched, crew neck Henley smoking his sticky buds out of a soda can while watching his favorite downloaded Simpsons episodes every night! Yes, we all love "Mr. Plow"! Oh, you've got the song memorized, do you? SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE! That is exactly the kind of idiot you see at Taco Bell at 1 in the morning! The guy who just whiffed his way down the bar skank ladder!

I normally use wikipedia at work to look up obscure technological terms, but after Jeff's post about using it to look up cultural references I got interested. I looked up firefly and found a nice detailed article about the TV series, which I just started watching. Reading the article gave me some cool information about the show, which I normally wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. Wikipedia is so cool :)+ 1 - 1 | § ¶London
I guess I will join everyone else in saying that these bombings were bad... of course they were, you don't need me to tell you that. I hate how everyone is giving this so much attention. This is exactly what the terrorists wanted. They use our own blood thirsty media against us, whether it be to announce another kidnapping, or to spread fear from their bombing campaigns. I'm just thankful the bombing was small, and didn't include any sort of biological or nuclear weapons. We can all be thankful for that.Someone directed me toward this site which has a graphic representation of the moods reported by livejournal users. In case you were wondering, everyone was sad yesterday.

I was pissed off.

IBM Developer Works has posted an interesting look at the Linux system that runs inside the Tivo. The article covers the great lengths that the company has taken to prevent people from modifying their Tivo's to do things other than just record TV. I'm pretty sure you can still get past some of the protections, but why even bother... I'd rather build my own.+ 2 - 0 | § ¶4th of July Weekend
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend. I know I did
I also got a chance to check out a place called Howl at the moon. It was a bar that featured 2 pianos that were facing each other, along with a few other instruments (bass, drums..) The performers were all pretty young, but they all rotated around and played each instrument. It was cool to see them be able to play all those different instruments well, even older musicians would have trouble doing that. They played all covers, and mainly requests. Suzanne and I requested Journey a few times, and actually got our requests played
The best part of the night came when my friend Adam took part in the "Howl Idol" event that was going on. The event basically consisted of people from the audience coming up and singing songs with the band. After all the contestants had gone, the audience voted on them using their applause. Adam had the bad luck of going right after the crowd favorite (a husky girl that got the sympathy vote from the crowd). He still got voted on to the next round, which will be occuring in August. So good luck to him, I definitely will be going out to see him! In case you're wondering, there are many Howl at the Moon bars... check out their site for more info!
