+ 0 - 2 | § ¶Warzone 2100 under Debian
For all those craving an RTS fix under Linux, there finally is an option. Recently Pumpkin Studios decided to release their classic RTS game, Warzone 2100 under the GPL. I noticed that someone packaged the game under Debian so I gave installing the game a try. Here's what you have to do to get it running:- First, add deb http://people.debian.org/~fenio/warzone/ ./ to your /etc/apt/sources.list file
- Next, run apt-get update followed by apt-get install warzone warzone-data
- Run the game by typing warzone
+ 1 - 1 | § ¶Jury Duty
So I went to jury duty today... Here's how the day went: Got up ass early in the morning, went to Burger King, got a crappy coffee and my breakfast sandwich order wrong, sat in an hour and a half of traffic, got frisked and treated like a criminal by the security guards at the courthouse (which was in the middle of the ghetto), waited for 2 hours in a jury waiting room, saw a 10 minute video about being a juror, saw a 10 minute video about high rise fire safety, sat for 30 more minutes in the waiting room, got my number called, lined up and marched over to the courtroom, had the judge tell us to come back at 1:30pm for jury selection, wandered about aimlessly around the courthouse, ended up at the cafeteria, got lunch and tried to read my book, while sitting at the table alone was surrounded by a family who started talking about someone getting shot, went back to the courtroom, sat through the judge asking 24 people the same questions over and over, finished my book, sat around a little more while the lawyers in the case decided which potential jurors would be acceptible, watched a bunch of people leave who weren't picked, waited until 2 alternates were picked, got my check for $17.20, went back to my car and spent another hour and half driving home... civic responsibility kicks ass.+ 1 - 1 | § ¶The dream is over...
| So it happened, the Bears special season has come to an end with a 29-21 loss to the Carolina Panthers. At least I was lucky enough to be able to see it on my friend Steve's plasma TV in hi def... The game was full of surprises on the side of the Bears. Grossman came through and threw for close to 200 yards and a TD. The offense did it's job and put up 21 points, but the defense came up surprisingly short. Steve Smith went wild on the Bear's secondary, scoring twice and catching 12 balls for 218 yards. It's especially surprising that he did so considering the Bears had to be focusing on him since he got like 169 yards on them last time. He was their only option since their starting running back went down, and their other receivers suck. In the end, even though they didn't play their best game, they had a chance to win. You can't blame Grossman for not getting that last play in, he did all he could given the amount of games he's played all year. Oh well, I guess I'll be rooting for Seattle to take it all this year... screw Carolina. I hope that next year the Bears will fill some holes in their defense namely getting another starting CB opposite Vasher (Tillman should be Nickel CB at best) and getting a good tight end receiver that they can count on (1 wide open catch for a TD does not count Clark!) There are some bright spots to look forward to for next year however. Hopefully Grossman will continue his development and turn into the all-pro QB that all us Madden players know he is. The Bears will have Bradley, Berrian and Mushin Muhammad back at WR (in that order... yea I said it) and will have 3 good RB with Jones, Peterson and Benson (in that order). Hopefully out defense will remain as good as it was and improve... and finally I hope that Ron Rivera (defensive coordinator) doesn't get a big head and sign with some other team. You got your ass kicked Ron, now stay in town and prove you can actually call some defensive plays when it counts! Thanks for a surprisingly great season Bears, till next year! | ![]() |

So the holiday season came and went. It was a busy time of year for me, being part of two families now... Suzanne and I essentially had 2 full Christmases, one on Christmas eve, and one on Christmas day. It was interesting to see the difference between the two approaches. I won't get into details, but one was over the top, and the other was a little more subdued. Both have their merits, so it's fun to be able to experience the holidays from two different perspectives. Suzanne's parents got us an espresso machine (Starbucks Barista) that we have had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to use... mainly we've been using it to make Chai Latte's with the milk steamer function. I also got some nice clothes, and ended up getting the Firefly soundtrack that I've been lusting over. I got Suzanne a nice Coach purse, so she's been pretty happy about that. After Christmas was over, I flew out to Pennsylvania with Suzanne's family to visit their family by Philadelphia. It was nice to spend some time over there and get to see some of Suzanne's extended family again. New years was a little more subdued then last year (when Suzy and I got engaged). We went to a party at a friend's place and had a chill night in general. It was a relaxing way to start off the new year. We're going to need it because there are many big events coming up this year (wedding, honeymoon, new condo).
