Apr 26, 2007 - 22:25 | + 2 - 4 NIN = OSS?

As if I needed another reason to like NIN... In a true "open source" move, the source files to the following tracks from the Year Zero album were released on nin.com: Capital G, My Violent Heart, and Me, I'm Not. One of the best parts about the files is that they are being shared via the piratebay bittorrent indexing site! Trent has a sense of humor :)

Apr 12, 2007 - 19:05 | + 1 - 2 RIP Kurt Vonnegut

One of my favorite authors, Kurt Vonnegut, died yesterday. I'll let you read the article if you want more details, but here I'll mention that he was a whitty and talented author who wrote books that will surely withstand the test of time. My favorites of his include: Cat's Cradle and Player Piano. He will surely be missed by millions around the world including the one writing this post.

Apr 11, 2007 - 17:50 | + 4 - 0 Fresh Paint

I've been working on a site update for a while, and today (as I'm sure you noticed) I've finally uploaded the changes. Pardon the dust and minor bugs while I get everything up and running. To celebrate, I turned one of my former blog posts into an article in the content section of the site. The article covers using gmail and exim to keep track of your linux system. Enjoy :)

Apr 08, 2007 - 13:25 | + 4 - 1 Debian 4.0 "Etch" Released!

Congrats to the Debian project for releasing version 4.0 (commonly known as "Etch") of their awesome Linux distribution. I will be sure to apt-get my update asap! For those who don't know, Debian is my Linux distro (flavor) of choice because it's truely independent (no single company sponsors it).

If you want to try Linux, and have never run it before - check out Ubuntu, which is based on, and shares many features with Debian.

Apr 05, 2007 - 11:22 | + 0 - 3 New Nine Inch Nails Album on Q101

I had a chance to listen to the new NIN album (Year Zero) on Q101 last night. It was very interesting to hear the new stuff that Trent is putting out. It is so different from the previous album "With Teeth". I thought that the tracks were challenging to listen to musically (not melodically - they sounded great) and contained alot of advanced concepts that music majors like my wife will most definitely drool over.

I heard alot of video game (specifically idsoftware games - quake, doom, etc) influence in the music - which in my opinion is awesome. Games like the Quake series have had interesting, different melodic themes for many years and it's great that they are now being exposed to a wider audience. Interesting fact.. Trent Reznor produced the soundtrack to the first Quake game for idsoftware. You can take a Quake 1 cd and rip the songs into mp3... getting basically another NIN album to add to your collection (but without words). You can find used Quake 1 cd's on ebay for pennies these days...
