Here's a quote that has been on my mind recently:- "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

This blogger's post does a good job of articulating why I have chosen to stay with Debian, even though Ubuntu is more popular and, in some ways, more capable.read more | digg story

NIN's recent album, Year Zero has been one of my favorite albums during the past year. Therefore, I'm excited to have noticed some remix related news recently...Here's a cool "fan-created" remix album from Year Zero track data that was released by Trent during the past year: http://www.9inchnails.com/remixes/.
I think it's great that a major label artist is allowing fans to experiment with music in such a way. I think that in a few years, we'll see much more of this kind of thing happening, especially as people get more comfortable working with music in a digital environment.
Interestingly, a "professional" version is also being planned: wikipedia link.

Suzanne recently got a Roomba from our friends Brandon and Kelly for her birthday. For the uninitiated, a Roomba is basically a small disc-shaped robot that rolls around on wheels and cleans floors without any human control (other then turning it on). At first, I was skeptical as to it's usefullness, but after we set it up and let it go about it's business, my opinion changed...The Roomba is like a little pet that drives around on the floor picking up dust and small debries as it goes. When you first let it loose in a room it goes about bouncing off of walls and going in random directions. Luckily it has a bumper so it doesn't cause any serious damage, and eventually it starts learning the layout of the room. After a while, it starts following the lines of the walls and avoiding major obstacles in its path. Once it's dust bin is full or it runs out of battery power, it beeps and goes back to it's docking station. What a great invention!
Now if it could only be taught to bring me beers :)
