Oct 22, 2008 - 11:58 | + 4 - 3 Another NPR Show on the Credit Crisis

This american life did another great show about the current state of the economy, but this time the tone is a lot more somber. As usual, the show did a great job explaining complicated financial terms and practices in a way that made them accessible to regular listeners.

I was especially shocked to learn about the concept of "credit default swaps" (providing insurance against losses in bonds) and how the lack of their regulation (by both parties) encouraged the spread of the morgage crisis to other industries. I also found the bit about "stock injections vs. asset purchases" to be especially enlightening, given the current debate about the effectiveness of the bailout plan... .

I think I'm getting sick of the current layout and focus of the site... once I get some time, I'll put together a new design and start posting more.  For now, back to grad school and work.
